The Evangelical Covenant Church

The Evangelical Covenant Church

Updated August 31, 2006

"The Evangelical Covenant Church affirms the call to ministry for all persons. We have ordained and fully credentialed women since 1976 and we seek to be a diverse and welcoming church that affirms the calling and gifts of the entire body of Christ."

(Apparently, from their site, they use the TNIV Bible which we have written already about on our blog. This corrupted perversion, (a little sister to the NIV), is filled with feminism,...by the way, a lesbian was a part of the staff that worked on the original NIV translation! ES)

"At its 1976 Annual Meeting The Evangelical Covenant Church voted to go on record as favoring the ordination of women. At the 1981 Annual Meeting a motion to rescind that action was overwhelmingly defeated. However, some Covenant people still have questions about the role of women in the ordained ministry. Were the decisions made legitimately or were they merely a reflection of new movements in our society?"

" Women ought to minister not because society says so but because the Bible leads the Church to such a conclusion. "

The Apostle Paul, who was used by God to write much of the New Testament gave commands to the church,.... " women are not to speak in the church " The only conclusion that one can come to is that people who belong to this denomination are wilfully denying the command of the Lord. These people remain non spiritual by their own wilful ignorance. Keep seperate from them. ES

"The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) has long affirmed the full participation of women in all ministries of the church, and in 1976 passed a recommendation to go on record as favoring the ordination of women. Since that time, women have served in all levels of ministry and leadership positions within the church."

"In addition, it expresses our profound desire to reflect in our fellowship on earth the ethnic and cultural diversity of God’s kingdom in heaven, and our understanding that it is God’s desire for us to empower both men and women to fully use their gifts at every level of ministry and leadership."

******* end update *******

The Evangelical Covenant Church ordains women, and promotes them into church leadership.

Here are 3 quotes from some of their leaders that are found in the June 28, 2003 issue of Covenant News.

Brad Boydston, president of the Covenant ministerium, stated,…

“……ordaining women without restriction is a policy of the Evangelical Covenant Church,"

David Kersten stated,…”

" Covenant has a "broad and deep biblical theology" for ordaining women. "We are equal in creation - we are equal in the fall," he said. "We are equal in redemption - both men and women are fully saved - and we are equal in the kingdom."

Delegate Marilyn Moore of Lexington, Massachusetts said,

“ One of the things she said she appreciates most about the Covenant church is "its validation of women in ministry."
